First introduced in the 1930’s, the U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer woolen jacket was designed to keep servicemen dry and warm during foul weather. A heavy wool kept sailors protected while the shirt design cut back on bulk and allowed for movement during deck maneuvers.

Over one hundred years later and the design remains as relevant as ever.

Early CPO’s had a single pocket but we opted for the later two pocket design. As with any variant of this classic design, the wool fabric is the star. For a more elevated but no less functional choice, we turned to the experts at Harris Tweed. From the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, Harris Tweed has been weaving the world’s finest woolen tweeds since 1846.

But we didn’t stop there. A heavy, robust wool is excellent for warmth and protection, but can be uncomfortable next to skin. To ensure against any “scratchiness” we lined the interior collar band, interior cuffs and knuckle side of the side-entry pockets with moleskin from another legendary English mill, Brisbane Moss. Interior sleeves were also lined with a durable, comfortable and quiet sleeve lining from Italy. No Detail was overlooked on this refined update to the military classic.
