Vintage Aluminum Pocket Scribe Tool

An unusual vintage aluminum tool consisting of a pointed scribe and a larger hollow holder, tethered together with a metal ball chain. Presumably made as a compact marking or layout tool, though we haven't been able to determine its exact original purpose. 

Machined entirely from lightweight aluminum with a wonderfully utilitarian, almost aerospace quality to it. Whatever it was originally made for, we think it makes a pretty great keychain, desk object or addition to a collection of odd vintage tools.
